Mathilde Drié (BSB'17): 50 shades of blue

Portrait of a graduate in charge of ready-to-wear development at Longchamp

Did you know that? The Longchamp ready-to-wear department is twenty years old. 400 models are created each year, divided between two collections. That's where Mathilde Drié intervenes. ” The models are designed by our artistic director and her stylist. With a collaborator in charge of materials, I pilot the production until the delivery of the clothes from the design. This involves a series of three successive prototypes and the management of our subcontractors. It's very rhythmic! ”.

Mathilde's mission consists in project management, integrating a strong technical dimension, but also a control over prices and of course a relevant look at the desires of customers. ” Previously, I moved to Vuitton, in an essentially technical role in industrializing post-fashion collections. At Balenciaga, on the other hand, as a collections coordinator, I was a conductor, bringing together a diversity of contributors ”.

Mathilde Drié from Dijon came to school with a lot of desire, a passion for sewing and the certainty that she would have to fight very hard to live her dream. ” At school, I learned two things that have never left me: the legitimization of my ambition and the ability to stay in my place. This may seem contradictory, but in fact, in my opinion, it is the secret to reaching the end of your aspirations. ”.

Mathilde followed the Bachelor and then the Master Grande Ecole. ” I methodically took advantage of all the opportunities offered by BSB in terms of education but also of international openness. For example, I went on Erasmus in 3E Bachelor year and completed a gap year in the United States as an au pair ”.

Ambition in a sector of excellence

That's for the international dimension. As for internships, Mathilde followed a classical curriculum, starting with retail sales. ” The trigger was my end-of-year internship at Vanessa Bruno, where I was assistant to the Development Manager. There, I experienced a tsunami of information for six months in the workshop, in the company of mechanics, cutters and other seamstresses ”.

Already far away, BSB, with this tsunami and the aftershocks that followed? What a nenni! ” I attach great importance to making myself available to Alumni and students. I always respond to contacts on LinkedIn, I send CVs, I exchange with young graduates. For me, participating in the admission panels is also a way of keeping in close contact with the school. ”.

As one can easily imagine, the creation of the MSc Luxury Management & Innovation did not go unnoticed. ” I saw the MSc coming up with a lot of interest. I find it particularly interesting for the school that it makes its mark with ambition in a field of excellence. ”.

Finally, the definition of luxury for Mathilde Drié: Luxury, for me, is being able to perceive the difference between Azure Blue and Royal Blue. Not always obvious the first time but essential to be respected by my artistic director!
