BSB hosts the 7th interdisciplinary colloquium on business failure

On April 3rd and 4th, 2025, BSB will host this annual scientific event on the Dijon campus, bringing together researchers and practitioners to discuss issues related to business failure (bankruptcy, restructuring, financial, legal, and organizational support, among others).
The event is jointly organized by Professors Xavier Brédart from the University of Mons (Belgium) and Éric Séverin from the University of Lille – both co-founders of the Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Business Failure (CIDE), and Nicolae Stef from BSB, with the support of Dijon Métropole and Bourgogne Franche Comté Region.
For this 7th edition, the speakers will explore the theme "Corporate reorganization:success and failure".
Five years after the COVID-19 pandemic, in a context of growing economic, political, and climatic uncertainties, many countries have experienced a significant increase in business failures. In 2024, France experienced a 28% increase in business failures, reaching 68,000 cases, a level significantly higher than before the health crisis (source: BPCE L’Observatoire study in Décideurs-magazine). In parallel, national bankruptcy laws have been reformed to facilitate the survival of businesses, notably through restructuring procedures.
Navigating the Complexities of Business Restructuring
In the current context, understanding what makes business restructurings successful is crucial not only for lawmakers and bankruptcy practitioners, but also for employees, creditors, and the economy (both national and local).
The speakerswill analyze all aspects of the topic and explore the challenges that courts, debtors, and creditors must overcome to achieve successful restructurings.
One of the highlights of the conference will take place on Thursday, April 3rd: around table discussion on "La restructuration d’entreprise: quel encadrement?” (in english: “Business Restructuring: What Framework?")f eaturing high-level speakers such as Frédéric Visnovsky, National Credit Mediator at the Banque de France, Karine Lemercier, AssociateProfessor at Université de Rennes, and Patrick Saerens, Lawyer at the Brussels Bar.
