School of Wine: a unique partnership with the University of Tokaj
A Wine Business Manager program has just been launched
The University of Tokaj (Hungary) recently signed a partnership with BSB and the School of Wine & Spirits Business (SWSB) and has just launched a Wine Business Manager program. Designed and mostly delivered by SWSB teams, this postgraduate program (Bachelor specialization) welcomes around twenty participants in its first class, mainly professionals wishing to broaden their knowledge in wine business.
For BSB and SWSB, this agreement reflects the desire to increasingly assert themselves as a major international player in wine management education, by developing exchanges with this highly prestigious wine region.
SWSB's expertise to launch a unique program in Hungary
Since the last school year, the Tokaj Wine Business Institute (TWBI) at the University of Tokaj in Sárospatak has launched its Wine Business Manager program, developed in partnership with the SWSB. Over one year, this course aims to introduce students to current trends in oenology and wine management, while providing them with sector-specific business skills that will allow them to evolve in the wine market at the international level.
“The sector is growing and this competitive environment requires solid professional skills,” explains Dr. Attila Fiáth, director of TWBI. “Tokaj is a tradition in itself, which is why we combine this centuries-old authenticity with modern economic education, specific to the wine business. For example, this program is aimed at young winemakers and professionals who want to improve their commercial skills, based in the region but also in neighboring countries. It is a chance to benefit from the know-how and international expertise of SWSB to set up such a program.”
Bourgogne-Tokaj, the union of two prestigious wine regions
Steve Charters MW, a lecturer and researcher in wine business at SWSB, is the architect of the Wine Business Manager program. He adds: “Tokaj was the first wine region in the world to obtain an appellation, at the beginning of the 18th century, which means its prestige! If at first glance Burgundy and Tokaj seem to be very different regions, they actually have a lot in common: internationally known, they are both built on a synthesis of anchoring in tradition and commitment to modern trends in the wine world. We are convinced that we can contribute to improving the competitiveness of the region by following the same approach that worked in Dijon.”
“We are particularly proud to partner with the University of Tokaj, and by the same token with a legendary brand in the international wine industry,” concludes Jérôme Gallo, Director of SWSB. “This type of partnership, which combines the excellence of terroirs and academic institutions, is in perfect harmony with our strategic development as a key international player in wine management education.”
